Languages, Cultures and Visual Studies at the University of Exeter provides you with insights into a wide variety of topics that enrich your understanding of cultures and foster your intercultural skills. Our teaching is inspired by our research: it reflects the topics we study, write about in books and journals and present at international conferences.
You are an integral part of our research community: the questions you ask in seminars and lectures, the contributions you make, all inform discussions and our thinking. The evidence is out there: you will find acknowledgements of students’ input in numerous introductions to books past and present.
The University’s apprenticeship scheme is another way to get involved in academic life and to enhance your CV. Based on a competitive process, past successful apprentices contributed to the translation festival, events in regional schools, interviews with writers, filmmaking, academic conferences based in Exeter and defined aspects of research projects.

Language Centre
All undergraduate students, regardless of degree subject, have the opportunity to study a language as part of their degree. You can even have this study included as part of your degree title, 'with proficiency in...' Employers are increasingly looking for graduates across all subjects who have additional language skills, so this is a fantastic way of standing out from the crowd.
