Associate Lecturer
Chinese (ML)

Born and raised in Beijing where the most standard Mandarin is spoken (modern Mandarin was created in the 1950s based on the Beijing dialect), I have extensive experience in the delivery and design of Mandarin courses at the University level and beyond. Having lived in the UK for over ten years and with a doctorate from Peking University - a world top 50 university, I have taught Mandarin Chinese to students from a wide range of linguistic, ethnic and cultural backgrounds.

Enthusiastic about language teaching and dedicated to providing excellent student experience, I have engaged with Mandarin learners in a variety of settings – from small groups to large cohorts, from face-to-face to online. With commitment to outstanding education, my teaching has received very positive feedback. As evidence of student satisfaction, this is what one of my recent students commented on my course:

Just to say how very much I have enjoyed your Chinese class … the mix of speaking and learning Chinese characters, combined with your fascinating insights into Chinese culture, has been far more fun than I could ever have imagined. In particular, I would like to thank you for your continual enthusiasm and encouragement.’
