I am a current PhD candidate in Translation Studies. I did my MA in the University of Birmingham supervised by Dr Gabriela Saldanha.
My thesis studies the translation of the genre of Khutba- Islamic Friday sermons. It specifically aims to identify the strategies that interpreters employ to render metaphor when encountered in this genre. To achieve this aim, a parallel corpus is compiled of around 1,000,000 words. This corpus consists of the Arabic transcripts of the Friday Khutbas delivered at the two Grand Mosques in Mecca and Medina over almost five years, and the transcripts of the interpretations of these Khutbas into English. In addition, some interviews is carried out with some of the interpreters of these Khutbas.
