Ms Maria Castillo-Ahuir (She/Her/Hers)
Lecturer
Hispanic Studies (ML)
I am a professional with more than 20 years of experience in the field of journalism, communication and education.
Starting as a journalist in several Spanish publications after graduating, while working as a volunteer in communication tasks for different non-governmental entities, my career took a turn towards the field of teaching.
Since then, I have been focused on teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language, and I have achieved several specific qualifications, such as a Masters Degree in Linguistics. I have been working the last 14 years as a lecturer of Spanish in Canada and UK.
I started to work at Exeter University in 2019 as Associate Lecturer in the LCVS department.
I enjoy creating my own interactive materials, and learning new methodologies to approach the principles of grammar to my students. I am also interested in introducing gamification in my lessons as a way to facilitate language acquisition.
I am Fellow of the Higher Education Association (FHEA).
