Chloë Edwards (she/her/hers)
Postgraduate Researcher
Art History and Visual Culture
I am a PhD researcher based in Art History & Visual Culture. In May 2025, I passed my viva for my thesis entitled Listen Without Prejudice: Queer Masculinities in the Popular Music Culture of Thatcher’s Britain, which explores the ways in which masculinity and male (homo)sexuality were depicted, challenged, and expressed in British pop music within the socio-political context of the Thatcher era (1979-1990). My research employs wide-ranging analysis of the period and relevant popular music cultures, utilising a rich variety of archival resources involving press and televisual material, music videos, as well as promotional ephemera such as vinyl records and I am now beginning work on a monograph with an aim to develop my research into a book.
I am co-organiser of the HASS PGR Gender & Sexuality Research Network, and in the 2025-26 academic year, will be supporting the delivery of the following modules:
- AHV1006 Visual Media
- AHV1011 Questions and Methods in Art History and Visual Culture
- AHV1012 Approaches to Art History and Visual Culture
- AHV2015 Art History and Visual Culture Field Study for Blended Learning
